When the National Association of Professional Buyers was founded in 2013, its members wanted to improve the standards and practices of quick-buying companies because the industry was unregulated. Today, nearly 50 from all over the UK companies are members of the NAPB and have agreed to abide by a code of ethics that addresses issues such as sales tactics, high standards and customer service. In today’s installment, we’ll introduce Geoff Porton of Francis Group
Who are you, and what’s your background?
My name is Geoff and I formed the company 15 years ago. I have bought and sold hundreds of properties in that time. My specialty is buying any type of property, in any condition or situation, in a timeframe that meets the vendors’ requirements, if they want completion in under a week or for me to fall inline with their onward purchase either is fine and is easily achievable as I only buy using my own funds.
Where is your company based?
Northampton
Where do you purchase property?
Anywhere in the UK
What are your company’s core values?
To provide an honest property buying service that ensures all vendor’s requirements are met. If they want a fast sale, I can complete in under a week. Only last week I completed on a purchase 4 days after my offer was accepted. If they’re selling a deceased relative’s property and find it hard to clear the property I offer a service whereby I say, take your relative’s personal effects and anything that you’d like to keep and leave the rest, we’ll deal with everything and we don’t charge for this service.
What are the company’s biggest challenges?
Finding enough properties to buy.
What’s the key to running a successful property business?
Organisation and the right team of people around you.
Where do you see the Professional Property Buyer industry going?
I envisage it getting busy in the next 1 -2 years where people may be unable to sell in the traditional way via estate agents so need an alternative way to sell their home.
What’s the most unusual property you have bought?
All the properties I buy are fairly normal but situations involving a property include property subsidence, extensions coming away from the main house and problem tenants.
