The NAPB was created to give homeowners greater protection when dealing with quick buying firms, in a sector that lacked proper checks and guidance. Encouraging companies to take responsibility for their own practices was viewed as a way to improve the experience for sellers and help the market develop in a more reliable way. Since then, the organisation has continued to promote clear and fair behaviour across the industry. We also support buyers in Scotland, and in this episode of Meet the Buyer, we meet Laura of The Scottish House Buyer
Who are you and what’s your background?
The Scottish House Buyer was founded in October 2012, but our directors have been actively buying property in Scotland for over 25 years. With extensive experience in property investment, renovation, and resale,
we’ve built a reputation for fair dealing, transparency, and delivering quick, reliable purchases for sellers who need a smooth sale without the uncertainty of the open market.
Where is your company based?
We are based in Scotland, with operations covering the central belt and beyond. Our local presence allows us to understand the nuances of the Scottish property market and provide realistic, market-based offers to sellers.
Where do you purchase property?
We purchase residential properties across Scotland — from the central belt through to the east and west coasts — focusing on areas where we can add value through refurbishment or provide a fast, hassle-free sale for owners.
What are your company’s core values?
Our business is built on integrity, transparency, and reliability. We believe in offering fair prices, clear communication, and doing what we say we will do. Every transaction is handled with professionalism and respect for the homeowner’s circumstances.
Do you have customer reviews online?
Yes, we have a growing collection of testimonials from satisfied sellers who have appreciated our honest approach, straightforward process, and ability to complete purchases quickly and efficiently. www.referenceline.co.uk
What are the company’s biggest challenges?
One of the biggest challenges in our industry is standing out from companies that make unrealistic promises — such as offering “full market value” or “guaranteed” sales — but fail to deliver. These claims can create confusion and mistrust among sellers. At Invest in Scottish Properties t/a The Scottish House Buyer, we focus on doing the opposite: being open, realistic, and reliable from the outset. We also place great emphasis on working with trusted tradespeople to ensure every renovation we undertake meets the high standards our buyers expect..
What’s the key to running a successful property business?
Success in property comes down to trust, experience, and adaptability. Understanding people’s needs, responding quickly, and keeping promises are as important as market knowledge or financial expertise. Our long-term reputation is built on consistency and doing right by our clients.
Where do you see the professional property buyer industry going?
We believe the professional buying sector will continue to grow and mature, with higher standards and increased regulation helping to build public confidence. Sellers are increasingly looking for safe, transparent alternatives to the open market, and trusted professional buyers will play a key role in that future.
What’s the most unusual property you’ve bought?
We’ve bought everything from rural cottages and city flats to properties needing full renovation. One particularly memorable purchase was a remote cottage that hadn’t been modernised in over 60 years — complete with original fittings and an outdoor toilet!
We’re proud to have built long-standing relationships across Scotland’s property market and to be part of an industry that provides real solutions for sellers. Joining the NAPB reflects our commitment to ethical standards, transparency, and best practice in professional property buying.
